See Source Document -- With Detailed Data, Sources & Qualifications -- On New CalEPA Health Screening Tool Showing Pollutants & Cumulative Impacts By Census Tracts
|
(April 23, 2014) -- LBREPORT.com provides a direct link to the source document for CalEPA's just released "Draft California Communities Health Screen Tool, Version 2.0 (CalEnviroScreen 2.0)." The document details multiple polluants and their cumulative impacts by census tract.
Long Beach residents -- surrounded by four freeways plus impacts of two Ports plus an airport -- will likely be most interested in air quality. The document includes two pertinent sections: "Air Quality: PM 2.5" (begins on p. 22) [extremely small particulates, 2.5 microns and smaller] and "Diesel Particulate Matter".[begins p. 26]. Below are maps from those two sections.
In addition to quantifying pollution levels, the CalEPA document analyzes multiple factors -- including socio-economic and demographic factors -- to determine a cumulative health impact on the census tract's population. In our view, the underlying document and its data deserve to be read for context and qualifications (see the document's Introduction and Method, pp. 1-16.) The full document is 143 pages and worth downloading. To access the source document, click here. blog comments powered by Disqus
