UPDATE: All Clear: Bomb Squad Renders Safe, Finds No Explosive Material In Suspicious Package At Uptown Bixby Knolls Bus Stop; Incident Shut Part Of Atlantic Ave. And Caused Some Precautionary Evacuations

(April 3, 2016, updated at 3:40 p.m.) -- A suspicious package at a bus stop in uptown Bixby Knolls triggered the closure of part of Atlantic Ave. for about three hours at midafternoon Sunday April 3 (photo below.) LASD's bomb squad rendered the item safe and found no explosive material...and LBPD reopened Atlantic Ave. shortly thereafter.

LBPD Public Information Officer Marlene Arrona says the incident began at about 12:36 p.m., officers were dispatched to area of Atlantic Ave & 45th St regarding a suspicious package at a bus stop and LASD's Bomb Squad was called.

As a precaution, nearby residents were evacuated and Atlantic Avenue, between Del Amo and San Antonio was closed to through traffic until the item was rendered safe.
