LBPD Public Information Officer Claudia Lopez tells LBREPORT.com that at roughly 3:21 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Warren Ave. (not in the park but across street from its west side) regarding a shooting; they found the victim; he was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; the suspect is at large and LBPD says the shooting is being investigated as possibly gang related.

As previously reported by LBREPORT.com, on July 5th at about 1 a.m. a man was shot in the 1600 block of Gundry Ave. (about three blocks north and one block east), one of two 6th Council district shootings on July 5 (the other was at Hill/Burnett.) The two 6th district shootings on July 5 were among ten shootings citywide during the July 4th holiday weekend.

[LBREPORT.com comment: Nine days ago, Aug. 12, 2014: "[From] the stats we've heard this evening, who wouldn't want to live in Long Beach? It's probably one of the safest cities in the world." Statement by 6th dist. Councilman Dee Andrews after LBPD Chief Jim McDonnell tells Council session on LBPD budget that violent crime [doesn't provide 6th dist. stats] is down significantly. LB Mgm't/Mayor proposed FY15 budget doesn't propose restoring any of roughly 200 police officers that Andrews, Lowenthal, O'Donnell and (when he had Council vote) Garcia voted to cut since Sept. 2009.]
