(Aug. 19, 2015) -- What started out as a fight between two men, initially reported to LBPD as a battery, has turned into a homicide and possibly murder as one of the two men fighting was allegedly struck with a bottle, taken to a hospital in critical condition...and died a few hours later.

LBPD says in a release that its officers responded at about 9:11 p.m. (Aug. 18) to the 1100 block of E. 10th St. (just east of Alamitos Ave.) regarding a battery that had just occurred; when officers arrived, they learned a man (adult) had been struck by a bottle during a fight with another man.

The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition...and succumbed to his injuries at about 3:00 a.m. today (Aug. 19.)

LBPD says in a release that the motive for the fight is under investigation; the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Coroner's office.

LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Megan Zabel says a suspect hasn't been identified at this point (and thus not in custody.)

LBPD asks anyone with information about what took place to contact its Homicide Detectives Malcolm Evans and Mark Bigel at (562) 570-7244. Anonymous tips may be submitted by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), texting TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.
