(August 15, 2017, 2:30 p.m.) -- In an extended, confrontational Q & A, President Donald Trump engaged in pointed exchanges with reporters regarding weekend violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, his responses to it and the media's reporting of it.

At one point, President Trump raised the issue of current attitudes toward Confederate historical figures compared to others at the country's founding who'd held slaves, including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

The event, scheduled at NYC's Trump Tower to mark the signing of a Presidential Executive Order to speed approval of infrastructure projects, quickly went beyond.
