(Dec. 22, 2014, 6:25 p.m.) -- Attention, Naples: the Ravenna Bridge will be closed from Tuesday Dec. 23 to Thursday Jan. 1 so LB's Water Dept. can install a new force main after a 12" sewer main broke near the bridge on Dec. 17.
"Electronic message boards will be posted on Ravenna Drive and 2nd Street and on Ravenna Drive and Corinthian Walk to inform residents of the bridge closure. Detour signs will also be posted throughout the impacted area," says an LB Water Dept. release, adding "Residents' sewer and water services have not been impacted since the spill and will not be impacted during construction." As previously reported by LBREPORT.com, the Dec. 17 break spilled about 11,250 gallons of sewage, of which city crews captured about 6,000 gallons...but about 5,250 gallons got into Alamitos Bay (and the city ordered all swimming areas in Alamitos Bay closed for water contact. Dec. 23 update: [City of LB release text] "Long Beach Health Officials re-opened Alamitos Bay today after lab results indicated bacterial levels were within state standards, following a sewage spill on December 18 in Naples, from a force main break. Daily water samples taken from Alamitos Bay swimming sites now confirm that the water is safe for swimming...In order to protect the safety of the public, water quality monitoring is performed weekly at City beaches and bays by the Health Department’s Recreational Water Quality Program. The repair work is expected to be completed by New Years Day.
