(Feb. 11, 2014, updated 9:05 a.m from front page breaking Feb. 10) -- LBPD has issued the release below following a shooting at midafternoon Monday (Feb. 10) in the area of Artesia Blvd/Myrtle Ave. in which a 22 year old Long Beach man died.

The crime scene was near Jordan High School (which wasn't in session on the Lincoln birthday holiday) and roughly half a block north of 9th district City Councilman Steven Neal's field office in Houghton Park.


[LBPD release text] On Monday, February 10, 2014, at approximately 1:50 p.m., Long Beach Police responded to the area of Artesia Boulevard and Myrtle Avenue regarding shots fired.

When officers arrived, they discovered a male adult down on the street, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased.

The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Robert Anthony Proano of Long Beach. No suspect information is available at this time. The shooting is being investigated as possibly gang related. The investigation remains ongoing.
