(Feb. 25, 2015) -- LBREPORT.com provides quick launch / fast load audio (unedited) of 4th dist. City Council candidates Daryl Supernaw, Herlinda Chico and Richard Lindemann at a forum presented by the East Anaheim Street Business Ass'n (Feb. 24.)
In photo below left to right: 5th dist. Councilwoman Stacy Mungo moderates alongside candidates Supernaw, Chico and Lindemann.
Some salient points:
Re allowing a Customs facility at LB Airport that would allow international flights [by JetBlue and potentially others], Mr. Supernaw said he'll defer to expertise of Ass't City Atty Mike Mais and City Prosecutor/former Airport Advisory Comm'r Doug Haubert. [Mr. Haubert has cited risks in allowing Customs facility enabling int'l flights.] Ms. Chico said City should proceed with int'l flights with caution.
Re possible utility tax/sales tax increase: Mr. Supernaw said "no" to both, said voters have spoken on the issue. Ms. Chico said it's possible as a "last resort" and left the door open. [LBREPORT.com note: In a recent interview with the Long Beach Business Journal, Ms. Chico is quoted as saying "I don't like austerity programs -- saving your way out of an economic crisis -- but this is where you have to get into the books and take a look. I don’t want to speculate, but it doesn’t look good...What is the best way to deal with this? We're going have to look at options like bringing back the utility users tax. Or maybe a half-cent sales tax."]
