Sharp-Eyed LB Patrol Cops Spot Suspect Vehicle Day After 14th/Cedar Five-Victim Shooting, Conduct Investigation, Arrest Five Suspects In The Vehicle...And DA Charges All Five (one male adult, four male juveniles) In Connection With The Multi-Victim Shooting

(Feb. 19, 2015) -- In a release today (Feb. 19), LBPD indicates that the day after five people were shot/wounded in the area of 14th St./Cedar Ave., sharp eyed West Division patrol officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of a suspect vehicle (area PCH/Orange), and after what the release calls a "thorough and outstanding investigation," arrested five individuals inside the vehicle...and yesterday (Feb. 18) the DA filed charges against the five -- a 27 year old man and four 16 year old male juveniles -- in connection with the multi-victim shooting.

[LBPD release text] Yesterday, February 18, 2015, charges were filed on five (5) individuals in connection to a multiple victim shooting that occurred last Sunday in the 200 block of W. 14th Street.

On Sunday, February 15, 2015, at approximately 9:40 P.M., officers responded to the 200 block of W. 14th Street regarding a shooting that just occurred. When the officers arrived, they located four (4) victims who had been struck by gunfire. Three (3) of the victims were male adults and one (1) of the victims was a 17-year-old male juvenile. A fifth male adult victim struck by gunfire was also located at a hospital outside the City of Long Beach. All of the victims sustained non-life threatening injuries and are in stable condition.

The day after the shooting, Monday, February 16, 2015, at approximately 9:15 P.M., officers from the West Patrol Division observed a vehicle in the area of Orange Avenue and 17th Street that matched the description of the suspect vehicle from the shooting. The officers also observed the vehicle committing traffic violations and conducted a traffic stop to further investigate. Five (5) individuals were inside the vehicle, and the driver was found to have a suspended license and an outstanding traffic warrant for his arrest. After a thorough and outstanding investigation conducted by the officers, a firearm and other items of evidence were recovered from inside the vehicle. All five (5) individuals were arrested in connection with the shooting from the night before.

Yesterday, February 18, 2015, detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and charges related to attempted murder, firearms and gang enhancements were filed against all five (5) individuals.

Those arrested and charged in connection with Sunday’s shooting are identified as:

  • 27-year-old David Ham of Long Beach
  • 16-year-old male juvenile of Long Beach
  • 16-year-old male juvenile of Long Beach
  • 16-year-old male juvenile of Long Beach
  • 16-year-old male juvenile of Long Beach

David Ham is being held at the Los Angeles County Jail on $10,000,000 bail.
