(Feb. 2, 2015) -- A coyote was sighted taking a Sunday midafternoon (Feb. 1) stroll in East Long Beach on the 3600 block of Gondar Ave. (between Woodruff and Palo Verde Aves., north of Wardlow Rd.)
"It was traveling south on Gondar and turned east on Keynote. The animal looked healthy and didn't seemed concerned with my presence," reports LBREPORT.com reader Derek, who snapped the photo below (which we then digitally enlarged.) [Scroll down for further] |
The most recent coyote sighting is roughly a quarter mile west of Los Coyotes Diagonal and not far from Coyote creek, so named because the wild dogs inhabited ELB before post-WWII housing tracts brought people and their pets.

Long Beach Animal Care Services (ACS) Manager Ted Stevens has said that coyotes can run at up to 40 mph and are quite intelligent. They learn from human behavior and shouldn't be allowed to become comfortable around people. He said people can make them feel unwelcome by throwing things, squirting them with a water hose when available or a super-soaker bottle filled with ammonia or vinegar.
