Long Beach Deputy Police Chief Farinella Chosen As Laguna Beach's New Police Chief

(Feb. 10, 2015) -- Long Beach Deputy Police Chief Laura Farinella is leaving to become Laguna Beach's new Police Chief. Messages flew on social networks locally as word spread, wishing her well, thanking her for her sevice...and saying that Laguna Beach's gain is Long Beach's loss.

[City of Laguna Beach release text] -- City Manager John Pietig is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Farinella as the next Police Chief for the City of Laguna Beach. Chief Farinella was selected from a talented pool of applicants.

Laura Farinella is presently the Deputy Chief of the Support Bureau in Long Beach and brings with her 25 years of public safety experience. Since starting her career in Long Beach in 1990, she has worked all Patrol Divisions in the department and held multiple high level command staff positions.

While Chief Farinella has extensive law enforcement service, "Laura’s success at community outreach and working collaboratively with department personnel and the community really set her apart from other candidates." said City Manager John Pietig. "I look forward to bringing Laura on board and working with her and the department to take it to the next level."

Chief Farinella holds a Bachelor of Art Degree in Communications from Chapman University, and a Master of Science Degree in Emergency Services Administration from the California State University at Long Beach. She is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, FBI National Executive Institute, and has completed numerous post-graduate programs and leadership academies.

Laura lives with her spouse and two children in Rancho Santa Margarita. She will start her new position in Laguna Beach on March 16. "I am honored and excited to have been chosen to lead the fine men and women of the Laguna Beach Police Department," said Chief Farinella.

"I also look forward to bringing a fresh perspective to the law enforcement services of such a unique, charming and progressive city. I am eager to connect with the community and enhance our partnerships in the interest of working together to keep Laguna Beach safe for our residents, business owners and visitors."
