LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Megan Zabel tells LBREPORT.com that on May 3, 2014 at roughly 12:45 a.m., officers responded to Atlantic Avenue/New York Street along with LBFD regarding a man (adult) found lying in the street in full cardiac arrest.
Sgt. Zabel says LBFD pronounced the man deceased at the scene and there were no obvious signs of trauma to the man's body. LBPD's nitial investigation revealed the victim may have been involved in a physical altercation earlier in the night. PIO Zabel says homicide detectives responded to investigate but at that time there wasn't sufficient evidence to rule the death a homicide. Accordingly, it was classified as an undetermined death pending the outcome of the Coroner’s report. In September 2014, the L.A. County Coroner's office ruled the death a homicide, and LBPD has now classified it as a murder. LBPD's investigation is ongoing.
