(Jan. 13, 2015) -- A foul odor from an apartment unit in the 1100 block of Gardenia Ave. brought an LBPD response and officers discovered the bodies of three deceased persons: one female and two males.

LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt says the cause of death will be officially determined by the Coroner's office, but a large portable propane heater was located inside the unit and it appears the occupants were using it for warmth. [Temperatures in LB fell into the 30s in and around New Year's.]

"These type of heaters are not intended for indoor use and can produce deadly levels of carbon monoxide if the area is not adequately ventilated," PIO Pratt notes.
