LBPD w/ SWAT + LBFD Response Resolve Five Hour Standoff, 300 block W. Ocean Blvd., Suspect In Custody After Allegedly Threatening To Burn Down Apt. Building

(Jan. 3, 2017, 2:50 a.m., updated 5:30 a.m.) -- Following-up on this story reported as Breaking News on LBREPORT.com's front page and Facebook page, LBPD (with a SWAT call-out) resolved a barricaded suspect situation in the 300 block of W. Ocean Blvd. (area of Chestnut Ave.) that began in the 9 p.m. hour on Jan. 2 and lasted until shortly before 2 a.m. Jan. 3.

LBFD says the suspect, a 52 year old man, was taken into custody and LBFD evaluated him and took him to hospital for further evalation. The suspect allegedly threatened to light a fire and burn down the apartment building, portions of which were evacuated during the suspect's roughly five hour stand-off with police.

LBFD says the incident began in the 9 p.m. hour when LBFD responded to someone who triggered a manual-pull fire alarm on the 6th floor of an apartment building and responding firefighters encountered a person they described as hostile.
