(Jan. 2, 2017, UPDATED at 2:55 p.m.) -- A North Long Beach resident shot and killed an alleged burglar shortly before dawn today (Jan. 2.) in the 200 block of East Artesia Blvd. (west of L.A. River, just north of 91 freeway, between LB Blvd. and 710 freeway.)
UPDATE: LBPD states in a release that "The incident is preliminarily being investigated as a burglary that was occurring that resulted in the resident shooting the subject in self-defense." The release adds that the resident remained at the scene "and was detained by officers while they conducted their investigation" and "no arrests have been made at this time." In initial information, LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. James Richardson told LBREPORT.com that on Jan. 2 at 5:16 a.m., officers responded to a reported shooting in the 200 block of Artesia Blvd. On arrival they found a man (adult) had been shot; LBFD responded and transported the victim to a hospital where he later died from his injuries. "Intital information from officers at the scene is the incident was a burglary that was occurring at the location and a resident shot the suspect. The resident called police and remained at the scene. Homicide Detectives are at the location conducting the investigation. The incident is not believed to be gang related at this time [and] the investigation is ongoing." .
