(Jan. 25, 2017) -- The video below (and screen save LBREPORT.com made from it) shows a car in the predawn darkness Monday (Jan. 24) striking and fatally injuring a 78-year old woman who was pushing a shopping cart at midblock across the 600 block of Redondo Ave. The video indicates the driver stopped for a moment, then left. (The woman survived the crash but expired at a hospital.)
LBPD asks you to call its Collision Investigation Detectives at (562) 570-7355 if you know the vehicle's whereabouts or witnessed the collision. The vehicle appears to be a 2013 or 2015 silver 4-door Nissan Sentra sedan, and may likely have minor to moderate front-end damage and a missing driver's side mirror. [LBPD release text] On Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at approximately 5:58 a.m., Long Beach Police were dispatched to the area of Redondo Avenue and 7th Street regarding a hit & run traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
