Midafternoon WLB Shooting / Santa Fe south of Spring St.; Fourth WLB Shooting (7th Council District) Since May, Third Since July 6


(July 22, 2014) -- There was a West Long Beach shooting in broad daylight today (July 22) in the area of Santa Fe Ave. roughly one block south of Spring St. It's the fourth WLB (7th Council district) shooting since May, and the third since July 6.

LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt tells LBREPORT.com that at about 1:35 p.m., LBPD received a call regarding a shooting in the 2900 block of Santa Fe Ave. Officers learned that the victim had been transported to a hospital by an unknown party and officers then responded to the hospital.

Preliminary information is that the victim was standing near Santa Fe Ave./Canton St. when he was shot by a suspect from across the street. The suspect fled the location and is outstanding at present.

At midafternoon, the shooting victim is listed in critical condition.

LBPD is investigating today's shooting as possibly gang related.

As previously reported by LBREPORT.com:

  • On July 13 at about 3:10 p.m., a shooting (victim hit) took place in the area of Santa Fe Ave. and W. 33rd St. (a bit north of Spring St.)

  • On July 6 at about 12:35 a.m., a man (adult) was shot on July 6 in the area of Santa Fe/Spring St..

  • On May 1 at about 8:50 p.m., a 19 year old man walking near Santa Fe Ave. at Arlington St. (three blocks south of Wardlow Rd., north of Spring St. was shot.
