LBPD says in a release:

On Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Long Beach Police were flagged down by a security guard at a business in the 5200 block of Long Beach Boulevard. This security guard advised he had just been robbed at gunpoint, and the loss was his duty weapon.

Officers immediately aired a description to other officers in the area. A few minutes later, an officer spotted a person matching the description on Mountain View, just west of Long Beach Blvd. Assisting officers responded and an officer encountered the subject running directly at him. As the Officer attempted to detain the subject, an officer involved shooting occurred.

The subject was not struck, immediately placed himself on the ground to surrender, and was taken into custody.

The security guard's gun was recovered at the scene, as well as a second gun that was concealed in the suspect's rear waistband.

The suspect is a juvenile with prior arrests for violent crime. He was booked for assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and a weapons possession.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Malcolm Evans and Mark Bigel at (562) 570-7244.
