(July 24, 2018, 8:10 a.m.) -- Family and friends gathered at Pan American Park on July 23, a little over 48 hours after Fred Taft, who was attending a group gathering on Saturday afternoon (July 21), was murdered.

They left votive candles and heartfelt messages outside a restroom where someone shot and mortally wounded Mr. Taft.

Mr. Taft was an African-American man. A number of people who were present at the Saturday gathering say the shooter was a white man.

Thus far, LBPD has declined to describe a suspect by age or race and in a release on July 21 said a motive for the killing was unknown.
