(July 29, 2018, 3:50 p.m. reflecting front page breaking updates) -- A high speed pursuit flew through much of ELB today (Sun. July 29) after LBPD received a report of a stolen vehicle near the southern tip of Bellflower Blvd. and LBPD says the suspect allegedly put the vehicle into reverse toward the officers and hit a police car. The ensuing pursuit ended when the driver sheared off a fire hydrant on eastbound Wardlow Rd. just west of Woodruff Ave. and the vehicle rolled-over, landing on its roof and leaving the stolen vehicle's owner with the mangled wreckage below. LBFD extricated the driver and took her to a trauma center...with the suspect in LBPD custody.

LBPD PIO Arantxa Chavarria tells LBREPORT.com that officers were dispatched at about 12:45 p.m. to the 300 block of Bellflower Blvd. (3rd dist., north of Elliot St., south of Colorado St.) for a stolen vehicle call. When officers arrived and began to approach the vehicle on foot, the suspect allegedly reversed the vehicle toward the officer and his police car, struck the police car and fled the area.

A police ensued, flew through the 4th district and into the 5th, ending on eastbound Wardlow Rd. just west of Woodruff. LBFD Public Linformation Officer Firefighter Jake Heflin says the call came in 12:51 p.m.; Engine 19 was on scene at 12:57; LBPD extricated the woman at 1:04 p.m., and transported her to a trauma center in LBPD custody.
