(June 9, 2012, updated 5:30 a.m.) -- In an updated tally of votes on the Secretary of State's website now has LB Councilman Gary DeLong within 3.6% of districtwide (LA + OC) votes of State Senator Alan Lowenthal (D, LB-Paramount), who finished first districtwide.
As of Friday night June 8, the Secretary of State's website had Lowenthal at 33.3% of the vote with DeLong at 29.7%. DeLong narrowed the gap in both the L.A. and OC portions of the district. In L.A. County, the updated tally has Lowenthal with 41.5% to DeLong at 28.1%, (which on election night was 41.6% to 27.8%) while in the OC portion of the district, DeLong has 31.7% with Lowenthal at 23.6% (previously 30.9% to 23.7%). The multi-candidate June ballot also included former Congressman/former Assemblyman Steve Kuykendall, a Republican, who ended up with about 11% of the vote districtwide. As the top two finishers, Lowenthal and DeLong advance to a November runoff...which will coincide with the Presidential General Election and a larger voter turnout for both party partisans and independent voters.
