(June 27, 2012, 3:31 p.m.) -- Glass doors were smashed at the Bay Shore branch library in Belmont Shore overnight (6/26-6/27) and, in what may or may not be a related incident, at a car wash in the 5700 block of E. 2nd St.
LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt says that this morning (6/27) at about 7:30 a.m., LBPD responded to the Bay Shore library after a passerby reported broken glass at the site. LBPD's investigation revealed that two sets of glass doors had either been smashed or damaged. Since it was possible someone might have entered the building, officers conducted a search (with K9) but no one was found inside. The exact loss is still being determined as of this afternoon. While investigating this incident, LBPD responded to a car wash in the 5700 block of E. 2nd St. regarding a broken glass door. Offiers began their investigation, and it didn't appear that anyone had entered the building or taken anything. It's uncertain if the two incidents are related but investigations remain ongoing. LBPD asks anyone with information to contact its Burglary Detail at (562) 570-7351...and anonymous tips can be submitted by text or web at www.tipsoft.com.
