LBPD Cites Compton Man, Confiscates Fireworks Cache At His Home, After Online Ad Allegedly Indicates Fireworks Available For Sale in LB Area

(June 24, 2014) -- LBPD says Directed Enforcement Officers from North Division investigated and ultimately cited a 30 year old Compton resident after police spotted an online ad allegedly indicating fireworks available for sale in the Long Beach area [which may be legal in other cities but are illegal in Long Beach.]
In a release today (June 24), LBPD says it searched the man's residence in Compton, found 454 pounds of [release text allegations] "assorted high caliber pyrotechnics with a street value of over $5,000." confiscated the fireworks (photo below) and cited the man who is now required to appear in court.
In a June 24 release, LBPD says officers located an online ad regarding fireworks available for sale in the Long Beach area and "their investigation led them to the City of Compton, where a male adult suspect was located and fireworks were found in his possession." [LBPD release text] All fireworks, including those marked as "Safe and Sane" are illegal in the City of Long Beach. Anyone cited or arrested for fireworks violations may be faced with a $1,000 fine, sentenced to six months in jail, or both. The fines and penalties may increase depending on the fireworks’ classification. Fireworks may be voluntarily disposed of at collection bins located at Lifeguard Headquarters, 2100 E.
