(June 20, 2014, 4:30 p.m.) -- Assistant City Manager Suzanne Frick today resigned from the City of Long Beach to accept a position as City Administrator for the City of Ketchum, Idaho, the town where Ernest Hemingway committed suicide which had a population of 2,689 in the 2010 census.

A spokesperson for Ketchum City Hall tells LBREPORT.com that Ms. Frick's salary will be $160,000 plus a usual benefits package. (The LB Ass't City Manager's salary as listed in LB's adopted FY14 budget is $217,588 plus a benefits package.) The City of Ketchum is adjacent to Sun Valley beneath Bald Mountain, famous for its skiing.

Ms. Frick first came to LB City Hall in April 2005 as Director of Planning and Building, and has served as under City Manager Pat West as Assistant City Manager since December 2007. Prior to coming to Long Beach, Ms. Frick spent 22 years with the City of Santa Monica, serving 11 years as Director of its Planning and Community Development Department.

In a City Hall mass email, Ms. Frick said: "It is a very difficult decision for me to leave Long Beach...[b]ut I have always had a special place in my heart for the City of Ketchum and the Sun Valley area, and always hoped to live there one day. The opportunity to become City Administrator was something I knew I had to try for if ever given the chance. My experience in Long Beach has been nothing short of incredible, and I am constantly impressed by the professionalism, dedication and ability of City of Long Beach employees. This team has risen to every challenge presented to them, and I am proud to be a small part of the success Long Beach has achieved over the past several years."

City Manager Pat West said in the email dispatch: "We are losing one of the City's very best today, but I wish Suzanne all the best as she pursues her dream...This City has benefited tremendously from Suzanne's passion, dedication, and talent. We see the results of her efforts all around us, and her presence will be sorely missed."

Ms. Frick's last day at LB City Hall will be August 1. "The City Manager is currently evaluating options for Ms. Frick's replacement as Assistant City Manager and hopes to make an appointment prior to Suzanne Frick's last day with the City," said City Hall's email dispatch.
