(June 5, 2015) -- Locked gates will swing open for a short period on Saturday June 6 at 8 a.m. (sharp, don't be late) for a family-friendly "Heron Hike" through the Los Cerritos wetlands. It's the Los Cerritos Wetlands Land Trust's monthly wetlands awareness event and begins in the driveway near 1st street and PCH (and you may park in the driveway for this event.) The walk begins with a brief orientation to the wetlands, discussing the history of newly acquired wetlands and viewing Marketplace marsh, followed by a pleasant walk around on oil roads, walk towards the levee and discuss the reintroduction of the tides. That's followed by a walk to the old bridge on the levee with discussion of the San Gabriel River and the future of bringing water back into the land before heaidng back to the starting point..."all the while keeping a lookout for Belding's Savannah Sparrows" (says LCWLT in a release.)
