(June 22, 2015, 7:12 p.m.) -- Eighth district Councilman Al Austin announced via email earlier today (June 22) that the U.S. Postal Service has chosen a property at 4462-4470 Atlantic Ave. @ 45th St. (Bixby Knolls Shopping Center next to Marshalls) as the site of the new Bixby Knolls post office.

Councilman Austin attached a letter from Dean Cameron, in charge of USPS implementation for the Pacific area, who indicated in a June 22 letter that USPS believes "this new location will provide the community with an upgraded, modern facility that offers a safe working environment for our employees and the level of service expected by our customers."

Councilman Austin said in his email that the new post office should be open sometime in the fall.

"I appreciate the Postal Service following up on their commitment to open a new location in the Bixby Knolls area as soon as possible," said Councilmember Austin in his email. "This site was the preferred choice of the vast majority of residents who commented on the proposed locations."
