(June 30, 2015) -- Governor Jerry Brown today (June 30) signed into law SB 277 -- full final text as enacted at this link -- a bill that will basically require a doctor's recommendation to allow a parent to exempt their child from vaccinations otherwise required to attend a CA public school.

Governor Brown issued this statement on signing the measure.

A state Senate legislative analysis on final passage lists groups and entities in support and opposition at this link. (pp. 10-13)...but doesn't include arguments offered in opposition. Arguments in opposition were included in the Assembly legislative analysis at this link.

LB area lawmakers Assemblyman Patrick O'Donnell and state Senator Ricardo Lara voted for the bill, which was introduced after an individual with highly contgagious measles infected others (roughly half unvaccinated) during a visit to Disneyland...and the disease spread through parts of CA and several states.

SB 277 passed Assembly by a 46-31 margin (recorded vote here) and the state Senate (tally on final passage) by a 24-14 margin (recorded vote here.)
