(June 12, 2016) -- Orlando, Florida police officials say a 29 year old U.S. born citizen, Omar Saddiqui Matteen, age 29, shot and killed at least 50 people and wounding at least 50 more at an Orlando bar popular with the LGBT community.

The FBI acknowledges that prior to shooting, Matteen phoned 9-1-1 and made statements "general to the Islamic State" [ISIS]. The FBI says the 9-1-1 recording is now federal evidence.

The suspect/shooter was armed with an AR-15 style assault rifle and a handgun; he was killed in a shootout with police/SWAT. The suspect's parents are from Afghanistgan.

At a middday news briefing, FBI Special Agent Ron Hopper said the agency interviewed Omar Matteen in 2013 and 2014, closed their investigations and he wasn't under active investigation at the time of shooting. The shooter worked as a security guard, held active gun licenses, and ATF says purchased the guns legally within the past few days.

I am horrified by this shooting and senseless act of mass murder. I am so angry, yet my heart breaks for the victims and their families.
