(June 10, 2016) -- A 5.2 magnitude earthquake at 1:07 a.m., with an epicenter about 13 miles N-NW of Borrego Springs in San Diego County and 16 miles S-SW of La Quinta in Riverside County, was felt -- although weakly - roughly 100 miles away in Long Beach.
The U.S. Geological Survey "Did You Feel It" website received responses from residents in LB zip codes reporting it "weakly" felt in zip codes 90803, 90804, 90805. 90806, 90807, 90808, 90810 (largest number of responses: 10), 90814 and 90815. The quake occurred along the active San Jacinto fault, which produced a near-magnitude 6 quake in 1937 and a magntiude 5.3 quake in 1980...but (according to Cal Tech's Lucy Jones) hasn't triggered a quake along the San Andreas fault, believed to be building to a "big one" at some point.
