Long Beach Unemployment Rate Reaches A Local Low; Compare It To Rate In Nearby Cities

(June 21, 2017) -- A June 20 press release from City Hall notes that LB's latest unemployment rate is its "lowest level recorded since 1990." For the record: CA's Employment Development Department shows that LB's unemployment rate (preliminary data, not seasonally adjusted) for May 2017 of 4.4%, which was the same as L.A. County overall (4.4%) and the same as Signal Hill (4.4%.)

LB's May unemployment rate is marginally higher than the City of Los Angeles (4.3%), and considerably higher than nearby Lakewood (3.1%), Bellflower (3.8%), Hawaiian Gardens (3.5%) and Cerritos (3.0%) and Redondo Beach (2.5%).

LB's unemployment rate was lower than Lennox (4.5%), Cudahy (5.1%), Bell Gardens (4.7%), South Gate (5.3%), Bell (5.5%) and Compton (6.4%).

L.A. County's May 2017 unemployment rates ranged from 0.6% for Palos Verdes Estates to 7.5% for Willowbrook.
