(March 7, 2012, updated 9:40 p.m.) -- The 340-ton rock's final hours in Bixby Knolls tonight (March 7) continued to draw crowds. LBReport.com carried a LIVE webcast from shortly after dawn into midmorning...and several LA TV news stations and KNX newsradio came by, repeatedly announcing its presence on Atlantic Ave. between 36th and 37th Sts. The crowds spanned all ages. At 11 p.m., LBReport.com is scheduled to begin our SECOND live webcast of the day...as we carry a LIVE webcast on our front page transmitted by Dan Halverson of WebcastLongBeach.com as he "Walks with the Rock" as it heads south on Atlantic Ave. through central Long Beach on a swing through downtown LB. It'll rock will then head north on Magnolia Ave., west on PCH and into WLB and out of town in the overnight hours. The giant boulder, which will become a "Levitated Mass" artwork at the L.A. County Museum of Art, drew crowds estimated in the thousands during the day to events on Atlantic Ave. organized by the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association. The events, basically a community party, included live artists, photographers...and a DJ playing music with "rock" in the title. The final hours brought LB Deputy City Manager Reggie Harrison.
