(Mar. 31, 2015) -- In a very creative promotion, LB Airport gave the public about two hours to do what the public is normally never allowed to do: to run (or walk) on newly repaved runway 25R/7L this afternoon...and a big crowd showed up for the unique opportunity. The 25R/7L runway rehab began in Feb. 2014, and with its reopening to aircraft on April 17, 2015, about 30% of LGB's air traffic -- which under LB's Airport ordinance is noise limited to mainly general aviation/small aircraft -- will return to the runway (which lines up very roughly between Wardlow Rd./Carson St. to the east and between 36th/37th St. to the west.) The FAA provided LB Airport with $15.1 million (the largest such grant ever received by LGB) to refurbish 25R and improve access to Taxiways E and F, as well as make improvements to the shoulder, perimeter road and adjoining pavement area says an Airport release. Runway 25R/7L was last repaved in 1993...and the new rehab is expected to last for roughly 30 years, LB Airport says. blog comments powered by Disqus Recommend LBREPORT.com to your Facebook friends:
