Red X's = murders 2011 to date; Blue X's = non-fatal shootings (of which we became aware) Aug. 2, 2011 to date. Cumulated data for context.

Long Beach has had two murders within the first three days in May. The City had at least seven murders in April (six shootings plus 1 arson attack allegedly by a homeless person), but the April total is eight if one counts a man whose body was found in a burned vehicle in Rancho Palos Verdes; LASD says he was murdered in Long Beach.

By our calculation, Long Beach has had at least 20 murders in 2013 to date...and 21 if one includes the Long Beach man LASD says was murdered in Long Beach, whose body was found in a burned vehicle in Rancho Palos Verdes. Long Beach had 30 murders for all of 2012. In 2011, LB reported 25 murders [26 after the LA County Coroner's Office ruled a 2011 undetermined death as a murder in 2012]...with 31 in 2010, and 40 in 2009 and 2008.

LBPD asks anyone with information about what took place to contact Homicide Detectives Mark McGuire and Greg Krabbe at (562) 570-7244. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or text TIPLA plus your tip to 274637 (CRIMES) or visit www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
