Relay for Life June 1 @ Millikan High; See Long Beach Teams, Their Reasons for Participating -- And Choose Team To Support -- in 24-Hour Fundraiser for American Cancer Society

(May 23, 2013. 6:25 a.m.) -- LBREPORT.com commends organizers of this year's Long Beach Relay for Life -- a twenty-four hour annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society from Saturday June 1 at 9 a.m. through Sunday June 2 at 9 a.m. -- who've wisely moved their event from downtown's Rainbow Lagoon Park (where it was nearly invisible and City Hall officials were way too busy to attend) and relocating it to a more visible, spacious and user-friendly venue in East Long Beach at Millikan High School (Palo Verde Ave. just south of Spring St.)

For 24 hours -- starting at midmorning Saturday June 1, continuing all day, into the night and through dawn until midmorning Sunday June 2 -- Long Beach teams of Relay walkers will be on the Millikan High athletic field as part of the the largest annual fundraising event in the United States.

The Long Beach Relay for Life event page indicates that as of dawn May 23, 39 Long Beach teams and 387 participants have raised $31,875.01 to date.

Funds raised benefit the American Cancer Society.

Long Beach Relay for Life events begin Saturday June 1 at 9 a.m. on the Millikan High athletic field with an opening ceremony, followed by a Survivors Lap at 9:30 a.m. Twelve hours into the Relay, a Luminaria Ceremony takes place at 9:00 p.m. Sat. June 1, with candles lit to recall people lost to cancer, to support those now fighting cancer, and to honor those who've helped fight this disease. Relay walkers then continue through the night through dawn and into Sunday mid-morning when they take a final lap at 9:00 a.m.

LBREPORT.com will be providing LIVE webcast coverage of this important event. [We may have to power down from time to time to avoid blowing up our equipment but we will provide extended coverage.]

The June 1-2 Long Beach Relay for Life is the local component of a nationwide event; other Relays take place throughout the year; a CSULB Relay for Life was held an April 26; one in Los Alamitos is scheduled for June 29.

Each person participating in the Relay for Life has personal reasons for doing so. We encourage you to click on the links above, see why the Long Beach team leaders are taking part, choose a team to support and do so as you can.

Take part in person if you can and join us online on June 1-2 for coverage of this event.

And pass it on.
