Take Quick, Painless Test in East Long Beach Saturday, Possibly Help Save This Three Year Old Girl's Life

(Nov. 6, 2013, 10:30 a.m.) -- LBREPORT.com reiterates and amplifies the plea (heard/seen LIVE on LBREPORT.com during last night's (Nov. 5) City Council meeting) for LB residents to be painlessly tested in minutes on Saturday Nov. 9 in hopes of finding a possible lifesaving DNA match for a three year old Long Beach girl.
Sofia Flores, age 3, has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a rare and aggressive form a cancer affecting only 1% of children, Doctors tell the family she has only two to three months to find a bone marrow match...and because of her unique racial and ethnic make up, matches are limited. There is still hope that a match can be found from someone in the Los Angeles-Orange County area's diverse population. Sofia's family is partnering with A3M, a local recruitment center for Be The Match and will conduct a donor recruitment drive this weekend. The test doesn't hurt; they take no blood; they swab your cheek to find out if you're a match. Organizers say it takes only about five minutes to fill out a form and take a cheek swab. You must be (1) Be between the ages of 18-44; (2) Willing to donate to any patient in need; and (3) Meet health guidelines. The testing will take place Saturday, Nov. 9 from noon to 4 p.m. at the home of Juan Rendon, 6351 E. El Jardin Street in Long Beach (Los Altos/ELB area.) In just minutes, you or your friends could help save the life of Sofia or other children desperately seeking a bone marrow match to survive. There's more information about A3M at a3mhope.org or via phone: contact Sara Arroyo at 213-625-2802 ext. 105. And thank you...from LBREPORT.com
