[LBPD release text and released photo] Long Beach Police arrested a male suspect in connection with two sexual assaults.

On November 9, 2014, around 2:00 a.m., a female victim reported that as she was walking with a friend near 4th Street and Orange Avenue, a male subject ran up behind her and slapped her buttocks. When confronted, the suspect exposed himself and wrapped himself around the victim, then ran away.

On November 15, 2014, again around 2:00 a.m., a second similar incident occurred in the same area. Another female victim reported that she was walking with a small group of people when a male subject ran up behind her, pushed her to the ground, and sexually assaulted her.

Long Beach patrol officers and detectives immediately initiated an investigation to identify the suspect. On November 17, 2014, officers located and arrested 19-year-old Long Beach resident Miguel Avila, in Long Beach. Avila was found to be on parole for a sex related offense and was out of compliance with his registration requirements.

On November 20, 2014, Long Beach Police Sex Crimes Detectives presented this case to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office for filing consideration. The District Attorney’s Office filed charges of three counts of assault with intent to commit a felony with the felony being a sexual assault, and one count of failure to register. Avila is currently being held on $355,000 bail.

Anyone with information regarding this incident, or anyone who may be an additional victim and has never contacted police, is urged to call Long Beach Police Sex Crimes Detective Adriana Jaurigui at (562) 570-7372.
