LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Megan Zabel says that at roughly 4:00 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of E. 5th Street regarding a man with a knife involved in an altercation. A man was stabbed; LBFD transported the victim to a hospital reported in stable condition. PIO Zabel says a motive for the stabbing is under investigation.

In the predawn hours of March 2014, four people were shot -- one of whom died -- just off Long Beach Blvd. at 6th St.

Albertsons recently closed its location at 450 Long Beach Blvd...and its space was taken over by an El Super food store.

In 2013, Nordstrom announced it would close its Nordstrom Rack store at the CityPlace shopping plaza (and did so in January 2014.) The store originally opened in August 2002.

The area is in LB's 1st Council district, represented from May 2009-July 2014 by Councilman (now Mayor) Robert Garcia.
