Peninsula Residents + Port Officials Watchful To See If Higher Than Usual High Tides + Former Tropical Storm/Now Tropical Depression Simon + Damaged Breakwater Produce Swells In LB
(Oct. 7, 2014, 4:10 p.m.) -- Peninsula area residents and Port authorities are watchful for any tidal surge and swells coinciding with higher than usual high tides on Tuesday night (Oct. 7), Wednesday morning and night (Oct. 8), and Thursday morning (Oct. 9) that may be propelled by former Tropical Storm/now Tropical Depression Simon (off Baja Mexico)
Simon may have easier entry into Long Beach than other tropical storms due to gaps and weakened sections of the federal Breakwater, damaged in August by Hurricane Marie (LBREPORT.com coverage here.)

Long time Long Beach resident John Deats was in the Port area today...and said he could see some waves breaking over the breakwater at early afternoon. A "High Surf" advisory issued by the National Weather Service is currently scheduled to expire at 9:00 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 7). Roughly twice a year, LB gets even higher tides -- "King Tides" (which in Long Beach reach over 7 feet) -- when the Earth, Moon and Sun line up and maximize the gravitational forces that produce tides.
