(October 23, 2017, 4:10 p.m.) -- The National Weather Service monitoring station at LB Airport recorded an air temperature of 104 degrees today (Oct. 23) with a blessedly low humidity of 8%.
The air temp hit 100 degrees at 12:20 p.m., backed down to 99 until 1 p.m. when it again reached into triple digits...and stayed there for a considerable period. As of 3:53 p.m., LGB's air temp was still 101 degrees with 12% humidity. The unusually low humidity produced an unusual negative heat index, meaning the 104 degrees air temp with 8% humidity felt like 97 degrees at more normal humidities. 101 with 12% humidity feels like 96 degrees. The National Weather Service predicts more of the same for Tuesday (104 in 90808, 97 in 90802) with cooler temps starting Wednesday. Due to the heat, LB schools will again observe minimum day schedules (earlier dismissals) on Tuesday Ocyt 24; exact times depend on each school. [Scroll down for further.] |
