LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Megan Zabel says that at about 5:25 a.m. on Weds. Sept. 24, officers responded to the 3100 block of Los Coyotes Diagonal (just northeast of Woodruff Ave.) regarding a possible burglary in progress to a liquor store.
The calling party heard an alarm sounding and loud banging noises from the location...and when officers arrived, they determined that a commercial burglary had in fact occurred. The suspect entered by breaking the glass to the front door. The business' loss included cash, liquor and lotto scratchers.
It was reported by a witness that the suspect vehicle may be a small black compact car, PIO Zabel says. As previously reported by LBREPORT.com, on Sept. 9, an East Long Beach business in the 4300 block of E. Carson St.
In that crime, LBPD Public Information Officer Marlene Arrona said officers were dispatched after a passerby noticed a broken window & phoned police...and officers determined that a burglary had occurred; the extent of loss in that crime wasn't immediately available.
Earlier this month (Sept. 2 and 9), the City Council voted without dissent (including 5th dist. Councilwoman Stacy Mungo who took office in mid-July) to approve a FY15 City budget recommended by Mayor Robert Garcia that funds a new "Economic and Property Development Department" but provides taxpayers with no additional budgeted police (after previous Councils cut roughly 200 officers in budget votes since Sept. 2009.) Anyone with information regarding the commercial burglaries above is urged to contact LBPD's Burglary Detail at (562) 570-7351.
