(Sept. 13, 2015) -- A man (adult) was found shot on Sunday morning (Sept. 13) in the NW portion of NLB.. The crime scene is roughly two blocks north of the area where a man was shot and wounded on Labor Day afternoon (Sept. 7) and comes two days after a man was shot in the area 52nd St./Elm Ave. (Sept. 11) and amid multiple shootings in Central and north-of-downtown LB in the 1st and 6th Council districts.

By our unofficial tally, LB has had at least 14 shootings (hit + no hit), including three murders, within roughly the past three weeks.

LBPD says in a release that at about 9:37 a.m. on Sept. 13, officers responded to the 300 block of E. 67th St. to assist LBFD that was on-scene with a deceased male. Paramedics had responded to assist a man down in an alley; they pronounced him deceased at the scene and noticed what the release calls "suspicious circumstances."

[LBPD release text] Homicide detectives and an investigator from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office responded and determined the subject suffered injuries from being struck by gunfire.

The victim is described as a young male adult. We are withholding the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin. The motive for this crime is unknown.

On Sept. 11, a man was shot/wounded in the area of 52nd St/Elm Ave.

On Sept. 10 in the midnight hour, a man was fatally shot in the 2100 block of Pasadena Ave. (6th Council district); LBPD says in a release at midmorning that the motive for the shooting appears to be gang-related.

On the evening of Sept. 7 (Labor Day), a man was shot -- and killed -- in the 400 block of W. 5th St. (area Chestnut Ave., 1st district, about four blocks north of City Hall.)

Earlier on the same day (Sept. 7), a non-fatal shooting occurred in NW North Long Beach (9th dist.) in the area of Butler Ave/Artesia Blvd.

On Sept. 3, someone fired gunshots at a man (adult) who was driving along the 1400 block of Gaviota Ave. (6th Council district.) The shooter missed him but struck his vehicle.

On Sept. 1 in the area of the 16th St./Pine Ave. (1st Council district), a parked vehicle was struck by gunfire although no person was hit.

Also on Sept. 1, a man (adult) was hit by gunfire at midmorning in the area of 10th St./Olive Ave. (border of 6th/1st districts (and by midafternoon, LBPD announced the arrest of a suspect on booking charges of attempted murder.)

On Aug. 31, a shooting in the 300 block of E. Eagle St. (east of LB Blvd., south of Burnett St.) leaves a victim wounded (6th district.)

LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt says that at about 9:10 p.m., officers responded to the location and found a victim hit by gunfire after being fired-on by an unknown suspect. The victim was transported to a hospital, listed in stable condition.BREPORT.com has learned of a shooting Sunday night in the 300 block of E. Eagle St. (east of LB Blvd., south of Burnett St.) in Central LB's 6th Council district.

On Aug. 28, a man was shot and wounded in what appeared to be a "walk up" shooting in the area of 10th St./Virginia Court (between Magnolia and Chestnut Aves.) roughly a mile due north of City Hall (an incident being investigated as possibly gang related.)

On Aug. 27, a woman (adult) was shot and wounded, and some cars were damaged by gunfire in the Seaside Park/14th St. Park area near Chestnut Ave. (1st district.).

On Aug. 24, a 17 year old male was struck by gunfire in the Wrigley area (Burnett St./Linden Ave., 6th district.)

On Aug. 24, shots were fired but no person and no property were hit in the area of 16th/Pine.

On Aug. 23, a man was shot and killed in the area of PCH/Pine Ave. (border of 1st and 6th districts.)

On Aug. 22, a woman (adult) was shot and wounded in the in the area of Cedar Ave./Louise St. (8th Council district.)

On Sept. 8, the City Council was scheduled to meet to consider the City's FY16 budget...but without dissent put off General Fund discussion until this coming Tuesday Sept. 15 (the deadline for Council action on management/Mayor proposed budget.)

During an Aug. 18 budget hearing on the proposed LBPD budget, no Council members made any motions, or indicated any willingness to restore all of part of LBPD's former field anti-gang unit (cut in half in FY13, erased in FY14 and FY15 budgets), or any of roughly 200 officers erased in Mayor recommended/Council enacted budgets since 2009.

LBPD's former field anti-gang unit previously deployed 20 officers + 2 sergeants in gang impacted neighborhoods, where officers could observe conditions firsthand, work contacts and gather intelligence. LBPD still has a budgeted anti-gang unit (handling investigations, filing cases and the like) but not an anti-gang unit operating in the field as previously.
