LB Cops Identify, Find & Arrest, DA Charges, Two Men With Murder Re E. 67th St. Fatal Shooting (One Also Re A NLB Shooting/Attempted Murder)

(Sept. 29, 2015) -- Long Beach police officers identified, found and arrested two suspects -- and the District Attorney has now charged the pair with murder in connection with the Sept. 13 fatal shooting of a man in the 300 block of E. 67th St. In addition, the DA has charged one of the defendants with attempted murder in connection with a non-fatal (unrelated) Sept. 7 NLB shooting.

LBPD states in a release:

[LBPD release text] On Sunday, September 13, 2015, at approximately 9:37 a.m., Long Beach Police were dispatched to the 300 block of E. 67th Street to assist Long Beach Fire Department personnel who were on scene with a deceased male. Long Beach Homicide detectives and an investigator from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office responded and determined he had sustained injuries after being struck by gunfire. The victim was later identified as 22-year-old Allen Pena of Compton.

On September 22, 2015, detectives arrested 24-year-old Michael Coronado of Long Beach and 23-year-old David Rios of Compton. On September 24, 2015, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office charged Coronado and Rios with the murder of Allen Pena. Coronado was additionally charged with attempt murder regarding an unrelated shooting that occurred on September 7, 2015, in North Long Beach.

Both are being held at the Los Angeles County Jail. Michael Coronado is being held on $4,000,000 bail and David Rios is being held on $2,000,000 bail.

A motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Detectives are investigating the incident as possibly gang related.
