(Sept. 8, 2015, 5:30 p.m.) -- Due to heat in the forecast, the Long Beach Unified School District has put its schools on a "minimum day schedule" on Thursday (Sept. 10) and Friday (Sept. 11.) Exact times depend on each school.

Wednesday will apparently be a regular schedule...although it may be the hottest day of the week. As of late afternoon, the National Weather Service forecasts a high of 100 in zip 90808 for Wednesday, with 99 and 96 forecast for Friday. The forecast for shoreline zip 90802 is 93 on Wednesday, with 92 and 89 on Thursday and Friday.

Cooling is forecast to begin on Saturday. These forecast numbers usually change overnight; we'll have updates on LBREPORT.com's front page.

LBUSD spokesman Chris Eftychiou says regarding outdoor activities, LBUSD HQ encourages schools "to engage in les vigorous activity and make sure students take hydration breaks and, as always, parents can opt their student out of physical activities if they feel compelled to do so because of the weather."
