(Sept. 12, 2016, 12:30 a.m.) -- As first flashed with initial information on our front page on Sunday Sept. 11, residents in the neighborhood along PCH between Poly High and LBCC heard gunfire, saw police activity and dealt with blocked streets after an armed robbery brought an LBPD investigation that resulted in six arrests and included two officer-involved shootings.
LBPD says it was investigating an armed robbery earlier that day in the area of PCH/Lemon Ave. when the suspects fled: some on foot, others in a vehicle that crashed into an unoccupied parked vehicle. One suspect fled from the vehicle when an officer-involved shooting occurred; that suspect wasn't injured. Another suspect fled on foot and was wounded in a second officer-involved shooting; as of Sunday night, that suspect was in critical condition. [Scroll down for further.] |
No officers were injured; no suspects are outstanding; and officers located a firearm at the scene. In its release, LBPD states: [LBPD release text] On Sunday, September 11, 2016, at approximately 3:21 p.m., Long Beach Police were conducting an investigation related to an armed robbery, in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Lemon Avenue where subsequently an officer involved shooting occurred.
