(Sept. 7, 2018, 5:20 p.m.) -- In the coming weeks, LB voters can expect to receive mailers, robo calls and see newspaper adds paid for by the "Mayor Robert Garcia Committee & City Auditor Laura Doud Committee To Support Good Government Measures AAA, BBB, CCC, DDD" urging approval of a measure that would let the incumbent Mayor and incumbent Councilmembers seek a third term without a write-in requirement (BBB) plus the three other measures .

It's the same political action committee -- with a changed name -- operated by Garcia that sent mailers to LB voters urging approval of the June 2018 Measure M utility revenue transfer/diversion [insisting "it's not a tax"...although Measure M is the Water Dept's publicly acknowledged reason for its 7% water rate increase to re-start transfering certain sums to City Hall, no longer limited to surplus.] And it's also the same committee that carried the names of Mayors Garcia, Foster and O'Neill to urge passage of the 2016 Measure A sales tax increase that brought LB the highest sales tax rate among all CA cities, tied with only a few others.

Garcia quietly made the change on Sept. 5, visible on the City Clerk's website on Sept. 7...but with no updated financial data (yet) regarding contributions received after June 30.

[Scroll down for further.]

As of June 30, the Garcia committee listed $1,541 cash on hand (after amassing $140,000 in 2018 mainly from LB's police officer and firefighter union PACs.) It also listed $39,863 in outstanding debts as of June 30.

Meanwhile, at an event last night (Sept. 6) organized by the Long Beach Reform Coalition PAC to oppose Measure BBB (3 terms instead of 2 + write in), spokesman Ian Patton said his group plans to hold a fundraiser in the coming week to mount a campaign against the incumbent-sought BBB term limit change.
