(Sept. 13, 2021, 11:30 p.m.) -- On the day before a petition-initiated gubernatorial recall election, President Joe Biden appeared at an LBCC event urging voters to retain Governor Gavin Newsom. Biden's event excluded the general public from attending in favor of Democrat party insiders (LBREPORT.com coverage here and here.)

LBREPORT.com (now entering our 22nd year) and other independent press outlets (including the Beachcomber) received no local media information on press access. Veteran photo journalist Diana Lejins (whose work has appeared in nearly every LB outlet on various stories) was prevented from entering the event area. The Pacific6 subsidiary owned/operated LBPost was given access.

LBREPORT.com won't cover remarks by Biden and Garcia based on TV coverage; we have an old-school policy against poaching work by others We regret that the Biden campaign and/or local Dem party partisans prevented us and others from accessing their event.

Outside a fenced area, opponents of President Biden and Governor Newsom jeered. (Among the chants heard: "Fuck Biden.")

And across town in Belmont Shore at Legends sports bar (which also serves food), recall election candidate Larry Elder spoke to roughly 100 cheering maskless supporters. LBREPORT.com livestreamed the event on Facebook and provides on-demand coverage below.

Mr. Elder voiced confidence CA voters will remove Newsom, an outcome would clear the way for Elder (the leading Republican candidate) to become Governor.

Mr. Elder sounded his familiar campaign themes: Governor Newsom implemented a destructive COVID lockdown, let homelessness get out of control and spiked a crime wave by releasing convicted felons. Mr. Elder said he's not an anti-vaxer but believes indivduals should have a choice on whether to be vaccinated (drawing strong cheers from the mainly maskless crowd.) Elder blamed CEQA for unaffordable housing costs by creating delays and impediments to new housing. He received some of his loudest applause when he supported vouchers (opposed by teachers' unions) that would enable working class parents to place their children in private schools.

Mr. Elder's website now includes a page that arguably lays the groundwork for blaming election irregularities if he loses (a theme previously sounded by former President Trump.) "If you have experienced any irregularities, interference, or intimidation while voting, please let us know by filling out the short form below" it says. .
