UPDATED Event Advisory

Long Beach Muni Band Will Perform BEFORE AND DURING Fireworks At ELB's Vets Stadium Councilwoman Schipske Says (Adds A "Boston Pops Style" Aspect To July 4th Event)

Admission free, donations accepted, parking $10, show includes multiple events and begins 5:00 p.m. at Vets Stadium, Clark @ Conant

(July 4, 2014) -- We checked this factoid specifically with Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske (who organized the return of July 4th fireworks to ELB's Veterans Stadium) and she assures us [we have the emails to prove it] that the Long Beach Municipal Band will be performing BEFORE AND DURING tonight's fireworks display. That would add a "Boston Pops Style" aspect to tonight's event.

The show is free to enter -- donations requested to cover the costs, parking $10 -- and begins at 5:00 p.m. (Veterans Stadium is where Clark Ave. meets Conant St. (south of Carson St., north of Spring St.)

  • The National Anthem will be performed by American Idol contestant Chris Gamboa.

  • And there'll be a tribute to the 16 Long Beach Hometown Heroes who gave their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. The LB Hometown Heroes are also honored with memorial banners at Rosie the Riveter Park adjacent to Vets stadium, made possible by the Rose the Riveter Foundation.
