Noon Hour Shooting, Area 8th St. West of Magnolia (Crystal Court); Teen Is Hit/Wounded

(July 6, 2015, 11:40 p.m.) -- As flashed on LBREPORT.com's front page minutes after it occurred, a shooting in the noon hour on Monday July 6 rocked LB's historic Willmore City neighborhood.

LBPD PIO Marlene Arrona says that at about 12:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 8th/Magnolia in response to reports of shots heard. Officers located a shooting victim in the area of 8th St./Crystal Court, just west of Magnolia. A male teenager (juvenile) sustained what's described as a non-life-threatening wound. LBPD's investigation is ongoing.

A day earlier (July 5), two men were hit in the 1400 block of Chestnut Ave. (just north of Anaheim St.) [LBREPORT.com coverage here.]

On July 4, a man and a woman were shot and wounded in the area of 10th St./Lewis Ave.

And on July 2, a 14 year old boy was shot and wounded in the 1000 block of Chestnut Ave. (roughly four blocks south of the July 5 crime scene.)

Since Jan. 1, 2015, LB's 1st Council district has had 9 non-fatal shootings (10 if one counts a shooting on the border of district 2)...in addition to three fatal shootings in June (after no fatal shootings from Jan-June 2015.) The district has been represented by Councilwoman Lena Gonzalez since mid-July 2014, and was previously represented by now-Mayor Robert Garcia since May 2009..

In the 6 p.m. hour, LBPD SWAT was visible in area of 8th St./Cedar. PD PIO said they were serving a search warrant regarding an ongoing investigation and later in the evening, LBPD's Watch Commander indicated that action was unsuccessful.
