Rolling Blackouts Hit LB & So. Cal

First Blackout Hits WLB About Noon, SE LB and Signal Hill vicinity hit later

(March 19, 2001) -- Rolling blackouts hit parts of LB and So. Cal today starting about noon and stretching into mid afternoon.

LB, specifically, part of WLB in the vicinity of Santa Fe, was among the first So. Cal cities hit by the Stage 3 rolling blackouts, initiated by SCE on orders from the ISO. LBReport.com sent an e-mail advisory to its subscribers warning of the coming blackouts just minutes after 12 noon.

LBReport.com subsequently received reports of blacked out areas in parts of SE LB, the Signal Hill area and Atlantic Ave. in the vicinity of Burnett.

The ISO also ordered rolling blackouts in the 6:00 p.m. hour, some of which reportedly impacted part of LB. The ISO urged conservation, saying conservation is "now a way of life."
