340 Ton Big Rock Rolls Thru Downtown; LBReport.com Carries Live Webcast Overnight (See Screen Save Photos)

(March 8, 2012) -- The 340-ton rock (being transported to a forthcoming exhibit ("Levitated Mass") at the LA County Museum of Art) rolled down Atlantic Ave. (with some palm trees removed and street signs temporarily shoved aside) and into downtown Long Beach overnight -- to more crowds in the midnight and 1 a.m. hours this morning.

LBReport.com (again) carried a LIVE webcast from roughly midnight to 2 a.m. via WebcastLongBeach.com, hosted by Dan Halverson (on a "Walk with the Rock"). Mr. Halverson transmitted live video and verbal reports while walking, jogging and sometimes running from 36th St. in Bixby Knolls, down Atlantic Ave., across Ocean Blvd. and up Magnolia Ave. to Broadway (where he waved goodbye to the rock) as it headed up to PCH, westward and out of town.

Earlier in the day THOUSANDS of people turned out in Bixby Knolls (Atlantic Ave. b/w 36th-37th St.) for a "Rock-A-PaLooza" series of events organized by the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association.

Mayor Bob Foster was present and did TV interviews at dawn, then returned later in the day. Also visible were Councilmembers James Johnson and Rae Gabelich.

LBReport.com carried a LIVE webcast via WebcastLongBeach.com from roughly 6:50 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. (LBReport.com recap coverage, click here) which was accompanied by L.A. TV news coverage (multiple outlets) and radio reports from KNX/1070 Newsradio.

The crowd continued into evening hours (LBReport.com coverage, click here)

Photos below are webcast screen saves; as transmitted live, the webcast images were much clearer. If you have photos you'd like to share with us (esp. from downtown), please do and we'll show the world. Email them to mail@LBReport.com.
